21/2023 Appointment of Service Provider for Supply, Delivery, and Installation of Research Monitoring Equipment

  • iSimangaliso is home to the turtle beaches/coral reef RAMSAR site, three estuaries that are RAMSAR sites, St Lucia, Mgobozeleni and Kosi Bay, and the iSimangaliso Marine Protected Area, which are all unique in their biodiversity criterions and world heritage values. Components that require monitoring and evaluation are bathymetry, water quality and quantity, sediment characteristics, benthic and pelagic habitats, plankton, fish habitats, vegetation habitats, and bird habitats. Several sampling techniques will be used to determine and assess the spatial connectivity between estuaries and marine ecosystems which include visual and aerial surveys, hydrographic, sediment sampling, water data loggers, remote sensing, acoustic, fish and bird surveys. The data collected from these parameters provide ecological understanding of ecosystem-based approach to conservation management and adaptive management. As a result, equipment, consumables, and chemicals are needed to ensure conservation management and support to undertake a monitoring activities in iSimangaliso.
