iSimangaliso wishes to convey its heartfelt condolences to the Mkhwanazi family and loved ones

29 May 2020

iSimangaliso have learned with great shock of the untimely death of Mr Phillip Mkhwanazi, Induna and a Ward councillor in the community neighbouring the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Induna Mkhwanazi was shot dead on Monday the 25th May 2020, in Khula Village next to St Lucia.

To iSimangaliso, Induna Mkhwanazi was not only a traditional leader but an environmentalist, who understood the need for co-existence between nature and people. He participated in various nature conservation programmes as well as the business development programme offered by iSimangaliso, which to date has seen more than 383 local businesses benefitting from this programme. At the time of his passing he had grown from being a tour guide to becoming a business partner in a company owning and running a boat cruise in the Lake St Lucia section of the Park.

During the visit to the Mkhwanazi family during the week, the CEO of iSimangaliso, Mr Sibusiso Bukhosini, made a call for the South African Police and other law enforcement agencies to be given the space to investigate this painful incident and bring the perpetrators to book. “I have known Induna Mkhwanazi as leader who would always go the extra mile when performing his job, in his various leadership capacities which he held. It is a great loss to all of us who worked with him,” said Mr Bukhosini.

iSimangaliso wishes to convey its warm condolences to the Mkhwanazi family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace.
