Minister appoints the new iSimangaliso Board

iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority welcomes the newly appointed Board members by the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy. The term of office will run for three years starting from February 2023.
Welcoming the new board on the meeting held in Durban on the 20th of February 2023, Minister Creecy said that the newly appointed board must look at the long term vision of the Park and the financial sustainability linked to that vision, progress on implementing the commercialisation strategy, infrastructure maintenance upgrades and sustainable energy, finalisation of land claims, Community beneficiation Strategy and amongst others.
Minister also passed her words of gratitude to the previous board for working tirelessly to make sure the iSimangaliso is well managed, achieves 100% on its Annual Performance targets during their term of office, implemented programmes that provided more than 240 opportunities to SMME’s and created about 3 675 jobs.
Echoing the words of the Minister the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority Mr Sibusiso Bukhosini, expressed his gratitude and that of the Executive management of iSimangaliso for a professional and productive work with the outgoing Board which has seen iSimangaliso receiving accolades of being one of the leading conservation and tourism destination in the world, but also an Entity that is truly responsive to the plight of the communities living adjacent to the Park.
The newly appointed Board Chairperson who served as the Deputy Chairperson in the outgoing Board, iNkosi Mabhudu Tembe appreciated words of encouragement and expressed his gratitude to the Minister for appointing the new board and further committed that the Board will work as per the mandate of the organisation. He also applauded the Minister for making justice in appointing people with different skills that will assist the Entity in overcoming issues that may arise from time to time.
iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority’s vision is to be a renowned World Heritage park where conservation, sustainable tourism and benefits sharing prevails. This goes with the iSimangaliso’s Mission which is to protect, conserve and present its world heritage values for current and future generations whilst benefiting communities living in and adjacent to the Park by facilitating optimal tourism and related development.
