iSimangaliso Communiqué – Lake St Lucia Estuary development progress
Dear Licensed operators, business owners, residents and stakeholders
Visitors to the Lake St Lucia Estuary mouth area will have noticed construction of the new entrance to the Sugarloaf Campsite. This entrance will be in operation from next week.
The next phase of the Estuary precinct development construction is that of the craft market area, public ablutions, additional parking and turning circle for tour busses.
Work will begin in the week of 26 March inside the original entrance area of Sugarloaf campsite and will not affect traffic flow over the Easter holiday period.
From the week beginning 9 April, construction operations will expand to the existing boardwalk parking and entrance area, and vehicles will be directed by signage to park at Sugarloaf Jetty or the lake side parking area west of the St Lucia Ski Boat Club. There will be no vehicular access beyond the Ski Boat Club until construction has been completed.
Please also note that the construction of a ‘splash-through’ is currently underway between the Main and Jabula Beach areas and there is no through road. Access to these beaches is either from Iphiva Road to Main Beach, or the Beach Road to access Jabula and Ingwe Beach.
We request your understanding and support as we complete this phase of the improved Estuary facilities.
