iSimangaliso Communiqué – Site establishment and zoned work areas

28 Sep 2017

Dear Licensed Operators, St Lucia business owners, residents and stakeholders

As the St Lucia Estuary Precinct improvements and infrastructure developments continue, please note that construction work commenced at Ingwe Beach this week. The new boat on-ramp stabilisation (log wall and boom installation) and the turning circle at Ingwe Beach have necessitated the temporary closure to the public of the area under construction for safety reasons. Foot traffic onto the beach at Ingwe will be controlled depending on the work being done at the time, however we urge visitors to choose the northern beaches until work has been completed (anticipated to be the end of October). Boats will still launch through Estuary Beach.

The marking out and clearing of the new entrance to Sugarloaf campsite opposite the ski boat club entrance has also begun but will not hamper traffic flow at this time.

We apologise for any inconvenience as we improve the facilities and attractions within this section of our World Heritage Site.
