Executive Manager: Tourism & Business Development

iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority, a renowned World Heritage Park where conservation, sustainable tourism and benefit sharing prevails, is looking for an experienced Executive Manager: Tourism & Business Development. 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Manager: Tourism & Business Development will be required to identify revenue generation opportunities for iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority by carefully balancing economic benefits to claimants and local communities with infrastructure development and promotion of tourism.

Requirements for the Job

Minimum qualifications: A degree in tourism or equivalent of NQF 8 in relevant fields. A post-graduate qualification would be an added advantage; Should have 6 to 10 years’ experience in a similar environment; 10 years in a senior management role with extensive experience in developing strategy; experience in budget management and a valid driver’s licence.

Skills: Proven leadership ability; excellent innovative, creative and analytical thinking; good decision-making and problem-solving skills; excellent relationship management competencies, good human resources management skills and staff supervision.

Behavioural attribute:  Influential, emotional intelligence and good judgement.

Key Performance Areas

A successful applicant will be expected to carry out the following key functions:

Planning and Implementation

Develop effective divisional strategic plans, policies and procedures that guide and support tourism and business development; identify revenue generation opportunities for the Park that are consistent with the parameters set out in the Park’s Integrated Management Plan (IMP); optimizes the Park’s revenue generation in a commercially and environmentally sustainable manner that fosters job creation and empowerment of historically-disadvantaged communities; identifies donors and sources funding for capital investments from the private sector; develop environmentally appropriate tourism infrastructure that supports tourism development and conservation management for the park; develop a marketing strategy that increases the profile of the Park and position it as a premier tourism destination; leads and guides the development of a brand positioning strategy that helps differentiate iSimangaliso’s brand; Develop strategy that attracts target customers, thus win sizable market share from competitors; identifies inhibitors to business development and strategically mitigates risk and formulate effective access control management plan for the park.

Relationship Management

Assures optimal performance of relationship management capability; address all strategic and operational issues with stakeholders to ensure sustainability; interacts with other divisions to drive a coordinated approach to the achievement of strategic objectives; encourages dialogue with stakeholders to aid in the achievement of iSimangaliso’s strategy.

Budget Management

Analyse the budget plan to determine the financial requirements of the division; determine financial allocations with deliverables; monitors expenditure against budget and ensure that spending occurs within budgetary limits; explores opportunities to reduce costs.

Human Resource Management

Effectively lead and manage the Tourism and Business Development division with the aim of ensuring that it achieves set objectives; conducts performance reviews in line with the entity policy as well as take necessary corrective actions; identifies critical skills essential for sustainability of service delivery and development of succession plans.
